Search everything you own
Quick answer
Press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on Mac) anywhere in the app, or click the search bar at the top. Type what you're looking for, and results appear grouped by type: items, documents, rooms, warranties, and more. Enter opens the top result.
Search is how a memory system pays off: instead of remembering where a record lives, you ask for it. HomeRecall searches across everything at once: homes, rooms, items, photos, documents, receipts, warranties, maintenance records, notes, and family members.
Opening search
- Press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on Mac) from anywhere in the app
- Or click the search bar in the top bar
- On mobile, tap the search icon for a full-screen search
Using results
- Results are grouped by type, with the best matches first
- Use the type filters to narrow to just items, documents, or another category
- Arrow keys move through results; Enter opens the selected one; Esc closes
- Recent searches are remembered, so repeat lookups are one click
Tip:Serial numbers are searchable. When you're on the phone with a manufacturer, type any part of the serial and the item comes straight up.
Note:There's also a full search page with filters for type, date, and home. Press Enter on a query, or use the results page link, to work through larger result sets.
Troubleshooting
Common problems and how to fix them.
Search doesn't find an item I know I added.
Search covers the names, brands, models, serial numbers, and notes you've entered. Check the item's spelling, or try a shorter fragment of the word.
The keyboard shortcut doesn't open search.
Click anywhere in the app first so it has focus, then press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on Mac). The search bar at the top of the page always works as a fallback.
